The 5th International Symposium on Azerbaijani Carpets (ISAC 2017) is an international academic lecture programme organized in partnership with the International Conference on Oriental Carpets (ICOC). It takes place in Baku, Azerbaijan 17-20 October 2017.
The organizers, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences and 'Azerkhalcha' Joint-Stock Company, will collaborate on a multiple-venue cultural programme during the Symposium. Two special temporary exhibitions will be presented at the Azerbaijan National Museum of Art (ANMA) and the Azerbaijan Carpet Museum.
An 8-day HALI Tour in Azerbaijan and Georgia will follow the Symposium, 21-28 October 2017.
Registration for ISAC is free and open to international speakers and guests. Register to take part in the full ISAC academic and cultural programmes, including special exhibition openings, cultural events and gala ceremonies as well as the lecture programme. The Symposium aims to appeal to those with an interest in historic weaving from Azerbaijan, the cultural heritage of the region and its design legacy as well as those involved in contemporary design and carpet production.Register
The Academic Committee invites proposals for papers for the 5th International Symposium on Azerbaijani Carpets: Traditions and Innovations, that recognize the importance of carpet making to Azerbaijan's cultural heritage. All traditional areas of carpet studies within present and/or historical Azerbaijan will be considered, including nomad, village and workshop pile carpets and flatweaves and embroideries. The working languages are Azerbaijani, English and Russian, however, the abstracts will be considered only if submitted in English.The deadline is 30 April 2017.
